Additions to UFLPA Entity List Deliver on DHS Strategic Promises

Washington, DC — The federal Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force, chaired by the Department of Homeland Security, announced additions to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List Wednesday. The additions are the first targeting companies that utilized forced labor in the production of steel and artificial sweeteners, delivering on DHS’s promise to expand the list in both number of entities and the industries into which it reaches.

Beginning October 3, 2024, both companies will now face a rebuttal presumption that their goods are produced with forced labor and may not be imported to the United States.

Free Human Project co-founder Diana Rademacher released the following statement in response to the additions:

The UFLPA entity list is a representation of not just America’s commitment to ending forced labor, it’s a representation of the momentum that is building behind significant change in the global supply chain. Today’s additions reinforce the commitment DHS made in the 2023 strategy update to expand both in entities and industries. The addition of one of the world’s leading aspartame manufacturers, in particular, reinforces how close to home this issue can hit for Americans. The average family spends nearly 13% of their household income on food. They should be able to rest assured those dollars are not exploiting people who helped bring it to their table.
